मंत्र्याची निवड करणें हा महत्त्वाचा गुण होय. तो बापूजी रघुनाथ ह्यांच्या नेमणुकीवरून, बायजाबाईसाहेबांच्या अंगीं चांगल्या रीतीनें वास करीत होता, असे दिसून येते१.
यशवंतराव दाभाडेः—हे तळेगांवच्या रणशूर सेनापति दाभाडे ह्यांच्या घराण्यांतील पुरुष होत. पेशव्यांनी लष्करी सत्ता आपल्या हाती घेतल्यामुळें हें घराणें पुढें नामशेष झाले होते. परंतु दौलतराव शिंद्यांनी यशवंतरावांस आश्रय देऊन आपल्या दरबारचे सरदार केलें होतें. शिंद्यांच्या मुलुखांत त्यांस ७०,००० हजारांची जहागीर होती. शिवाय दक्षिणेंत, खासगी जहागीर व तळेगांव व इंदुरी हीं दोन इनाम गांवें मिळून एकंदर ३१,१५० रुपयांचें उत्पन्न होते. ह्यांचे चिरंजीव मन्याबा ऊर्फ बाबुराव ह्यांस दौलतराव शिंद्यांनी आपली वडील मुलगी चिमणा-
१ बापूजी रघुनाथ ह्यांची प्रशंसा मध्यहिंदुस्थानचे पोलिटिकल एजंट सर जॉन मालकम, वेलस्ली व मार्टिन ह्यांनी फार फार केली आहे. सर जॉन मालकम ह्यांनीं मध्यहिंदुस्थानच्या इतिहासामध्ये बापू रघुनाथासंबंधानें जो उल्लेख केला आहे तो वाचण्यासारखा आहे:-
"The administration of Dhar is conducted by Bapoo Raghunath, who acting in complete confidence of meriting and receiving the support of the British Government is incessant in his labours to restore this principality to prosperity."
"That principality being under a minor prince, the adopted son of Maina Bai, the widow of the late Raja, has afforded us the same advantages, in carrying into execution economical reforms of the state of Holkar, nor is the minister Bapoo Raghunath inferior to Tantia Jogh in zeal or in a just appreciation of the generous policy of the British Government, which has restored the ruined fortunes of the Dhar family, and given them once more a rank and place among the princes of India."
